Cementerio del Pueblo de Truchas

Angel Wings by Evangeline Chavez

Each time I drive to Truchas ,New Mexico I always stop at the cemetery . This particular grave, Angel Wings, as I call it, is always adorned differently each time I visit.  Last visit at Christmas, snow covered the ground and there on the cross hung a Santa’s Cap.  Each adornment tells a story. In the back ground is Truchas (Spanish for “trout”) Peak, which is located in the Pecos Wilderness Area in the Sangre de Cristo mountain.

The movie “The Milagro Beanfield War” was filmed by Robert Redford  in Truchas, New Mexico in 1988.

  1. A rugged and fierce area, Truchas is. The cemetery is much more part of the culture in that community than most.
