exhibit of works of photographer Evangeline Chavez. The exhibit runs
July 2 – 30. Please join us for a reception for the artist from 2:00 to
4:00 pm on July 10. Ms. Chavez will be speaking about her recent trip to
China. Refreshments will be served.

Driven to see the end of every dirt road in New Mexico, photographer
Evangeline Chavez says she was born with a sense of adventure. Traveling
since her teens, her photographic wanderlust has taken her from her home
on the Bosque in Bernalillo, New Mexico, to China, Mexico, the Caribbean
Islands, and Europe.

Although her work focuses primarily on documenting New Mexicos
vanishing ghost towns and small town celebrations, her one-woman
exhibition shares her belief in the deep faith, love of family, and home
which connect us all.

Patience and timing are essential to capture images like the 50 in Ms.
Chavez’s show. For example, to shoot Our Lady of Guadalupe in Los
Cerrillos, New Mexico, or to catch that special light on a stand of
autumn aspens outside of Santa Fe, she heads out on New Mexico’s back
roads while it is still dark. She lingers until the light dribbles away
behind the Sangre de Cristo Mountains or she’s caught the last wisp of
puffing smoke from the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad train as it
takes a breathtaking turn on a high wooden trestle.

Her latest project is documenting important photo events in New Mexico
for a book Rick Carver is putting together, entitled A Year or So in the
Life of New Mexico .. The book will be published in March of  next year,
proceeds of the book will go to Esperanza in Santa Fe, a shelter for
battered families.
