Sacred Ground

Iglesia de San Jose

Iglesia de San Jose, is located on private property  in the ghost town of Cabezon, New Mexico.  The church once housed bales of hay for animals, but later was restored to its beauty. Like the older church’s it still has dirt floors and a wooden stove to warm the parishioners.  Once a year the church holds a mass in honor of  San Jose. Rusty and Annie opens their  gates and home to visitors to attend mass,  share a meal, along with lots of stories of long ago.

  1. Thank you

It is a very beautiful church, maintained with love by the parishioners in is this small ranching town. I love to go once a year to attend a special mass and revisit the people that come to share their stories of this long forgotten town.
